100 Years of Wisbech Town FC
Date: 1st Jan 2022 - 3rd Jan 2023
100 Years of Wisbech Town FC history goes online in this exhibition co-curated by Wisbech & Fenland Museum, Wisbech Town FC historian, Gordon Smith and Club Secretary Spenny Larham.
Inspired by Wisbech Town FC’s centenary year, and created during lockdown and while the Museum has been closed, the exhibition explores the inception of the club to the amazing post-war years and cup successes of the 1970s to today’s award-winning walking football team.
Gordon Smith’s books and a recent accession of scrapbooks and programmes which belonged to Alan Balding (1928-2020) have unlocked some of the most amazing stories of triumph over adversity on and off the pitch. Researching this exhibition has been hugely inspiring throughout the pandemic for all involved and so many people have helped, from members of the public, the Wisbech Standard and Fenland Citizen and ITV News Anglia. This is a real community team effort.
Made possible thanks to funding from the Museums Association Esmée Fairbairn Sustaining Engagement with Collections Fund.
